Sofa Fabric Care & Cleaning
Care for a fabric sofa by removing loose dust gently and blotting spills promptly rather than rubbing them. Before using water, detergent or any upholstery cleaner, check the care instructions for the actual fabric and spot-test an approved method in a hidden area. A colour, texture or removable-looking cover does not establish how that upholstery should be cleaned.
01
How often should I vacuum a fabric sofa?
Light, regular cleaning helps prevent loose grit working into upholstery. The right interval depends on use, pets and the care instructions, rather than a fixed schedule that suits every fabric. Where permitted, use a clean upholstery attachment and gentle suction, working along seams without catching threads or trims. Lift loose debris instead of pressing it into the weave. Check the attachment on an inconspicuous area first, and stop if it pulls the surface. Remove objects from cushion gaps carefully rather than forcing a nozzle into tight spaces.
02
What should I do immediately after a spill on a sofa?
Remove loose solids gently, then blot liquid with a clean, white, absorbent cloth. Work from the outside of the affected area towards the centre and use a fresh part of the cloth as needed. Do not scrub, soak the filling or apply heat to hurry drying. Prompt blotting does not make every stain removable. Before introducing moisture or a cleaning product, check the upholstery instructions. If the substance or fabric is unfamiliar, ask for suitable advice rather than trying several treatments in succession.
03
How do I choose and spot-test an upholstery cleaner?
Start with the instructions supplied for the actual upholstery, including any restriction on water or solvents. Do not assume a general household cleaner is suitable, and do not mix cleaning products. If a method is expressly permitted, test a small amount on a hidden area and let it dry fully before assessing colour, texture and any residue. A damp patch can conceal a change that appears later. If instructions are missing or the test alters the surface, stop and ask the team or an appropriate upholstery-cleaning professional for advice.
04
Can I remove and machine-wash sofa covers?
A zip does not necessarily mean a cover is designed for removal or washing. It may be part of construction rather than a cleaning feature, and shrinkage can make a cover difficult to refit. Check the specific instructions before unzipping, soaking or machine washing anything. Where removal and washing are permitted, follow the stated process for that cover rather than a routine used for bedding. If the instructions do not expressly allow it, keep the cover in place and ask for clarification before proceeding.
05
How can I help cushions and fabric wear evenly?
Where the construction and care instructions allow it, change the positions of loose cushions and turn reversible ones to distribute everyday use. Do not force fixed cushions free or flip a cushion with a deliberately different underside. Smooth the surface gently and keep sharp objects away from the weave. Prolonged direct sunlight can affect many upholstery materials, so consider curtains or a different position where appropriate. Keep the sofa clear of direct heat sources, and check that its arrangement still leaves usable walking space around the seating.
06
When should I ask for specialist sofa-care advice?
Ask before treating a large spill, persistent odour, unknown stain or delicate surface, particularly when the supplied instructions are unclear. Explain what happened and any treatment already attempted; photographs can help, but do not identify fabric composition reliably. For a new order, confirm the actual upholstery and its care requirements on the product page or with our team. Furniture is made to order in our own factory in Noida. Check sizing and delivery access separately: a suitable cleaning routine does not establish whether a sofa will fit your room or route.
