Choosing a Bed Size for Your Room
Choose a bed size using the full bed-frame footprint and the clear space you need around it, not the mattress label alone. Mark the frame on the floor and test access to doors, wardrobes and both sleeping positions before deciding. Names such as Queen or King do not establish the outside dimensions of a particular bed.
01
How much space should I leave around a bed?
Start by marking the complete bed outline, including any projecting headboard or footboard. Around 60 cm at a side can be a useful initial allowance for simple access, while a main walking route may call for roughly 75 to 90 cm or more. These are planning rules of thumb, not accessibility requirements. Try making the bed, walking to a wardrobe and reaching each sleeping position. A room used by someone with mobility equipment, or with frequent traffic, may need substantially wider clearances and a more individual assessment.
02
Should I measure the mattress or the full bed frame?
Measure both, because they answer different questions. Mattress width, length and depth help establish a suitable sleeping surface and its fit within the frame. The outside frame dimensions determine how much room the furniture occupies. Upholstered edges, a thick headboard or a projecting footboard can make the footprint larger than the mattress. Keep a written list of both sets of measurements in one unit. Check the individual product page and ask our team to confirm any missing internal or overall dimensions before making a choice.
03
Will bedroom doors and wardrobe drawers still open?
Draw the door swings and the full extension of drawers onto your room plan before placing the bed outline. Floor space that looks clear with everything shut may disappear during everyday use. Test the wardrobe while someone stands in front of it, and keep a continuous route between the bed and room exit. Include curtains, handles and loose furniture in the check. Avoid counting the same strip of floor as both a storage-opening zone and an unobstructed walkway unless you have tested that overlap in practice.
04
What bed height will feel comfortable to use?
Consider the combined height of the supporting frame, mattress and any topper rather than the frame alone. A useful personal check is whether you can sit at the edge with your feet supported and stand without an awkward movement. Comfort varies with a person's height and mobility, so there is no single measurement that suits everyone. Compare with a bed you already find comfortable, accounting for mattress compression. Include the thickness of a rug or floor covering if it changes the level where your feet rest.
05
How do I plan bedside tables and lighting?
Position bedside furniture within a comfortable reach from the actual mattress surface. A top around mattress level is a common starting point, but the right position depends on what you need to reach and how you sit up. Check that drawers open without meeting the frame or bedding. Plan light switches, charging leads and sockets so cables do not cross a walking route. Include the width of the bedside pieces in the room plan rather than squeezing them into a clearance already reserved for access to the bed.
06
What should I confirm before ordering a made-to-order bed?
Confirm the outside footprint, intended mattress fit, support arrangement and any separately agreed specification with the product page and our team. Do not infer these details from a styled photograph or a size name. Furniture is made to order in our own factory in Noida. Measure the delivery route as well as the room, including stairs, landings and tight turns, and ask which parts and access measurements need checking. Record the agreed details before ordering; these general planning allowances do not establish any particular bed's construction or dimensions.
